Hi, I noticed that you mentioned a wave of _business_ bankruptcies coming before the election, which has been in the financial/business news for some weeks now. Experts are practically begging Congress, apparently, to give the bankruptcy courts money to bring in more trustees and let bankruptcy judges who have retired dust off their old robes and come back to the courts. The big worry here, apparently, is that companies who filed for Chapter 11 and could be reformed and prosper will miss deadlines because the courts can't hear their cases fast enough and they get converted to liquidation bankruptcies and the court turns into a chop shop. That's obviously unsettling to think about, because going to the chop shop means that none of these companies will ever be hiring anyone again and the carnage could take years to recover from. In other words, this goes from a Recession to an outright Failure. On top of that, nobody is talking much about a wave of personal bankruptcies. The only thing I can see that is acting as a dam on that, kind of, is the extra unemployment stipend in the CARES Act that ceases to exist on July 31st. After that, it could be a wall of people packing every last cent worth of outstanding medical bills, credit card debt, underwater car loans, etc. that they can into a liquidation and then sending it off to an already overwhelmed court that has to handle the business ones too. Congress has to act, at warp speed (which is unlikely given the circumstances), or Trump won't just be running away from a bad economy in November. There might really not be an economy to speak of to run away from. In any event, Former NSA John Bolton was a little too optimistic in suggesting we can "recover" if there's "one term" of Donald Trump. Whoever wins, it might be like the Death Cab for Cutie song. President of What? If it's Trump, perhaps it's time to start referring to him as the Leper Messiah (Metallica). After all, he did get Americans completely banned from Europe. Unlike his disorderly and negligent federal response, they are putting a lid on COVID-19 and DO NOT WANT. Ryan F. (Waukegan, IL)
