Well, I figured out why most people who file bankruptcy never have their creditors show up at the 341 hearing. They can subject you to a deposition, but it's limited. Generally, it's "Where is the collateral/financed merchandise?", "Do you want to re-affirm this car loan?", or "Okay, we think you're hiding the gold bars in the vault. Where are they?". People filing for Chapter 7 generally have no assets and that's why they're filing. There's no particular advantage for creditors to show up at a 341 hearing because it'll just put them on the hook to pay their attorneys and they can still object to a discharge of particular items or the whole thing later. Having no creditors show up to the 341 is a pretty good sign that they're not going to bother with you later though.
