to me the value proposition of IPFS is: 1) I can make a scalable website, without any money 2) We could have communication tools, which doesn't involve capital at all, and doesn't need to bow down before advertisers 3) We can avoid using any tracking stuff, because the incentive is gone when there's no need to quantify audience size to ad sales people 4) I can actually afford to pay for hosting, but many of my friends can't, so to function as a useful communication tool, anything I use has to be without any subscription cost 5) Unlike federated networks, IPFS-based systems can avoid giving nerds power. Nobody runs special servers that could mess with your account if they go on a power trip. There's no friction trying to move away from a bad relationship 6) Because the easiest thing, is to mirror data you care about locally, it's easy to build tools which work well offline. Can't afford my phone bill this month? Can still sync up my social app and go enjoy that data in a park with no wifi, write new posts, participate, and sync up later.
