--- summary: A way to distinguish guest or AS-ghost room members --- created: 2016-02-29 17:03:12.0 creator: leonerd description: |- It would be useful if a client can distinguish at a glance of the members list (i.e. the set of {{m.room.member}}) events which users are guests, which are ghosts of which ASes, etc... One way that this could be done easily is by adding another profile-like field, to be supplied along with the {{displayname}} and {{avatar_url}} fields there. id: '12534' key: SPEC-361 number: '361' priority: '3' project: '10001' reporter: leonerd status: '10100' type: '1' updated: 2016-10-28 16:28:21.0 votes: '0' watches: '3' workflowId: '12634' --- actions: - author: matthew body: Yup. this could be done by extensible profile data, namespaced to the bridge itself, but i'm a bit worried that it's trivially spoofable and unnecessarily 'magic'. It feels slightly nicer to me if the AS was to 'sign' the user into participating in a given usergroup - i believe Erik's plan for user groups is some kind of crypto-based mechanism where the group owner signs the members to prove their membership. Then there's no spoofing, and we can put whatever metadata we like on the group itself? created: 2016-02-29 17:11:31.0 id: '12728' issue: '12534' type: comment updateauthor: matthew updated: 2016-02-29 17:11:31.0 - author: richvdh body: 'Migrated to github: https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-doc/issues/646' created: 2016-10-28 16:28:21.0 id: '13455' issue: '12534' type: comment updateauthor: richvdh updated: 2016-10-28 16:28:21.0
